With his calm, patient demeanor, Ross came to prominence as the creator and host of The Joy of Painting, a television program that ran for twelve years on PBS stations in the United States. He parlayed this success into a commercial “Bob Ross” brand: an industry of art books and supplies. He died of lymphoma in 1995 at the age of 52

A rare RaphAEl chalk drawing of a woman’s head sold for a record £29.1 million, or $48 million, at Christie’s in London – the highest price paid all year for a work of art at auction. Contemporary Chilean muralists will star in Chile Estyle at Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art from December 10 through December 23, 2009.

Highlighted is the work of Cekis, Inti, La Robot de Madera, and the duo Aislap and Agotok. These artists are representative of the Chilean style of urban art that has exploded since the fall of Pinochet in the early 1990s. Influenced by Mexican muralists, wildstyle, and Brazilian graffiti, Chilean artists have incorporated a variety techniques and visual languages to give rise to a distinct style.

The exhibition marks the first time Chilean artists practicing contemporary urban styles will be shown in the United States.
